Happy New Year From Bed!
Happy New Year From Bed!
It’s a new year. A new year full of new research, new discoveries, new possible treatments along with new challenges, new hurdles, new ups and downs in our health, and new losses and gains. It’s a whole new year of living with ME/CFS and it will hurt. But it’s fucking 2023. We are making progress. This is not the 80’s or 90’s anymore. Sporty Spice is gone and she’s not coming back. We’ve got some of the best scientific minds in the world working day and night on finding a diagnostic, cause and cure for ME/CFS.
2023 will be filled with all the same struggles and challenges as every year before and we should be prepared for all of it. The tears, the desperation, the dire loneliness, the emptiness, the suffering that feels endless, the pain that goes deeper than it has any right to; The moments of beauty and light. But all the while with a building wave of progress underneath us. Because this is fucking 2023.
I am going to call this the year of perseverance. #MECFSperseverance2023
We must persevere. Because that wave that is building below us will soon rise and carry us to freedom. It’s coming, make no mistake. ME/CFS will not be here forever.
But it is here for now. So we must persevere to the end. This may be the most difficult year for many of us. We may face hills we think are too steep to climb. But we will climb them. That flag is waving and we have to get there no matter what it takes or how long. We may be scrappy, stumbling, completely floundering over the finish line, but we will get there.
We have to. And we can. All of us. Together. We can tighten our belts one more notch, dig into the sink hole in our beds for another long night, brace for the great suffering and longing for life that we know is coming, and turn upwind. For it is there that the wave is building and it is there that it will meet us and carry us to freedom.
